Kendrick Lamar has launched a surprise new video, for ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ interlude track ‘For Free?’
Featuring many brass, a choir and a lot of Lamar’s colorful vocals, film sees the cutting rapper ‘haunt’ a mansion. He argues while using occupant – his lover – whilst appearing in open windows or due to being on hallway tables, giving an answer to a long list of complaints concerning the pair’s relationship.
The video is punctuated using the phrase “this dick ain’t free”, and isn’t shy in talking sex positions, etiquette and…er… size. The video was directed by Joe Weil & The Little Homies, and that is generated by Sam Canter, Christian Sutton, Haute Culture and Top Dawg Entertainment.
Lamar launched the most up-to-date footage via Twitter, captioned simply ‘For Free’:
Lamar’s also spoken extensively to NME recently, including on his lyrics, commenting specifically within the use of the ‘N-word’.
“The closest I can because of stopping is putting the basis word, negus, in this little album. But I don’t determine I’m there mentally to halt saying the N-word yet. I dunno, maybe 1 day. That’s 27 many years of reversing that word, I probably been proclaiming that since I was one-year-old”, he explained.
The singer also commented a visit to the South African Apartheid-era prison complex where Nelson Mandela happened, and it’s really influence on ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’.
‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ was launched in mid-March, and peaked at # 1 in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Lamar is now touring the US and Canada, and is also set to learn the main stage in the Reading and Leeds festivals above the August bank holiday weekend.
